Crank's Raspberry Buns

12 oz (350g) wholemeal SR Flour
1/2 tsp nutmeg or cinnamon
4 oz (100g) butter or marg
4 oz (100g) raw brown sugar
2 oz (50g) currants or other dried fruit
1 Free range egg
2-3 tbsp milk
Raspberry or jam of choice

Mix flour and spice together. Rub in butter or marg until mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Stir in the sugar and currants. Beat the egg and add to the dry ingredients with sufficient milk to give a firm dough. Divide into 12 and roll into balls. Place on a lightly greased baking tray. Press a 'well' in the centre of each bun and fill with jam. Leave as they are or pinch the dough over the jam to cover it. Bake at 190 C, 375 F or gas mark 5 for about 20 mins until golden.
