Differant crops either add or use nitrogen and other soil constituents and so for many hundreds of years crops have been rotated to get maximum yields. Crop rotation also hinders pests, diseases and some weeds.
A typical three phase crop rotation would be:-
Rotation A
Peas, Beans, Onions, Leeks, Shallots, Garlic, Lettuces, Spinach, Spinach Beet, Celery, Celeriac, Tomatoes, Peppers, Chilis
Rotation B
Cabbages, Cauliflowers, Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, Kale, Kohl Rabi, Chinese Cabbage, Swedes, Radishes, Turnips
Rotation C
Potatoes, Carrots, Beetroots, Parsnips, Salsify, Scorzonera, chicory.
Non Rotational crops include:-
Soft fruits, Rhubarb, Asparagus
