Face

Olive oil cleanser

Well that's it really (although jojoba oil works well too, just a bit more expensive) Very Happy Just massage into your face and remove with a muslin cloth soaked in water as warm as you can stand. You probably need to rinse two or three times. Absolutely fantastic! I have been using this for the past year and my skin is in the best condition it has ever been and no more panda eyes in the mornings! I promise you it doesn't make your skin greasy. I have combination skin and it seems to have balanced it out a treat. Just follow with rosewater, or whatever to tone, and your favourite moisturiser. (gina)

Rose face spray

I find that mixing a few drops of Vitamin E oil with some cold water and five or so drops of rose oil makes a very nice spritzy thingummy for hot weather (yes, I remember that…. something to do with sunshine, right? Wink). Stored in a dark-coloured bottle, it's best kept in the fridge. It's also quite nice with some cucumber juice added to it, or some aloe vera. (Kitchen Witch)

Toner

The best toner I have concocted is two thirds cooled boiled water and one third witch hazel. Add a few drops of lavender too. Really good for greasy/combination skins. (Cornwall Jo)

Rose face spray no. 2

Rosewater in a spray bottle is lovely in summer. Okay, that's not really a recipe, but it is nice and refreshing, and smells lovely. (binturong)

Toner / Wash

Apple Cider Vinegar makes an excellent toner and facial wash. I mix 1 part water to 1 part vinegar and store it in the fridge. I make a new batch every few days,as it works best when really fresh. The acid in the vinegar forces old skin cells to flake off much like the store-bought alpha hydroxy products. Very good for skin which tends to get flakey or which is prone to blemishes and excess oil.
A word of caution though, if you have sensitive skin start off with a milder dilution of vinegar. (gardeninggoddess)

A Scrub

I use Almond or Jojobs oil, but Olive is fine too, especially for the body, just add some sea salt for the body scrub plus an invigorating essential oil, as facial skin is more delicate I use bog standard table salt or sugar & a more soothing oil like Rose, or lavender if you have more of a combination skin. Smooth onto slightly dampened skin & massage as much or little as you like then rinse off, it dissolves quickly in the shower or bath. I use Jojoba as a cleanser too plus a selection of essential oils & find it brilliant. (Tegan)

Face Pack

natural yoghurt
honey
oats

Mix as much as you need for 1 treatment and leave for about 1/2 hour to soften the oats. apply leave for 10 mins. good for sore, spotty, dry skin especially. (purpletrumpet)

Hair

Frizz Ease

I have found coconut oil is a great alternative to frizz ease. Combats frizz and defines curls really well and I have brillo pad curly thick hair!! You can use it as a pre wash conditioner (or overnight) on dry hair or put it on dryish hair after it's washed to try and tame the frizz. I find warming some on my hands and then tweaking the curls into place and letting it finish off drying works best. I haven't tried it as a conditioner on wet hair. Will give it a go over the weekend. It's so cheap though it's excellent, my current pot is from Superdrug and cost 99p! hurrah! (Cornwall Jo)

Skin

Moisturiser

I use the face and body oil that I learned to make on the skincare course as a moisturiser. It takes a little while to absorb, but my skin feels fantastic.

55ml Sweet Almond Oil
30ml Apricot Kernel Oil
10ml Rosehip Oil
5ml Wheatgerm Oil

Blend the oils together and store in amber glass bottles to protect oil from light deterioration. You only need a tiny amount, so it last ages! (I also use it as a body oil, and is great for removing makeup too) (senseofjoy)

If you would prefer a lighter oil moisturiser that absorbs quicker, making it ideal for face. Use the same recipe but do not add the sweet almond oil. This is a medium rate absoption oil which is why it was added for the body oil. It remains on the skin surface longer giving a richer oil ideal for body use. (Indica Mama)

Cocoa butter and olive oil handcream

I have been experimenting with making my own hand cream without any nasty additives, havent got the ratio quite right yet as its not quite a cream but this is what I used

25g Cocoa butter
50 ml Olive oil
6 drops of Tea tree oil (for medication purposes)
6 drops of May Chang oil (cos I like the smell, fruity)

In a bowl over hot water I melted the cocoa butter then added the olive oil and mixed it a bit and then added the essential oils, put it into a plastic pot that I had scalded with boiling water and put it in the fridge.

I have taken it out of the fridge and its softer at room temperature but think it could do with more olive oil so next time will try 75ml but its nice and smooth on the skin and smells lovely. (chucklebrothers)

Lips

Lip Balm

Have just made lip balm for CJ2's friends for Christmas. Adapted the recipe from the fresholi site:

26 ml oil (Used sweet almond)
20g beeswax
10g cocoa butter
10ml glyceine
some Vit E cream
drops lavender

Filled 9 15ml tubs!! Looks really good. Feels fab! (Cornwall Jo)
